Autism Awareness in Palm Desert

Palm Desert is the physical home of the Coachella Valley branch of the Autism Society of America (ASA). They are celebrating National Autism Awareness Month in April, as is the rest of the nation.

Although their calendar is not stuffed with April events directly featuring National Autism Awareness Month, this branch is consistently providing services and events to stimulate awareness of this condition which affects more than just the young victims. Families of autistic people must also deal with the effects of autism and Asberger’s, an autism spectrum disorder.

While there are numerous events throughout California, the Autism Walk, the major April autism fundraiser across the nation, took place on Saturday, April 5, in Palm Desert at Civic Center Park. National Autism Awareness Month will be celebrated daily by all Coachella Valley ASA personnel.

The local branch official calendar of events includes the following April events.

  • The Latino Support Group meets April 15 from 6:30 to 8:00PM.
  • The My Gym Program for 3 to 10 year olds is April 16 from 6:45 to 7:45 PM.
  • The Young Adult Group meets on April 30 at 6:00PM at Coffee Bean and Tea.
  • The Teen Social Group will have an April event to be announced.
